2 LSC Brothers Finish Their Boy Scout Eagle Projects
Friday, December 8, 2017

l-r Carter Dougherty (13 years old) and his brother Colton Dougherty (15 years old) stand with their final projects in their front yard on Waterton Drive.

If you heard a lot of sawing and drilling the past few weeks in the Cambridge Neighborhood of Lake St. Charles, it was Colton and Carter Dougherty of Boy Scout Troop 83 in Riverview finishing their Eagle Scout projects.

Colton worked with Veterans Park to design, construct, and install signs in front of the war monuments in the park.  The signs allow park goers to use their smart phones to link to the park website for each monument to learn more about each war.  Colton additionally worked with the Veterans Park Committee to compose the information for the website and then worked with the webmaster to coordinate the information onto each webpage.  To build and install the signs, Colton led a group of Troop 83 Boy Scouts, as well as friends and family.

Carter chose to build a portable altar as his Eagle Project.  Carter worked with Mary Help of Christians Center to design and build an altar that the Center could use across their large campus.  Carter led Troop 83 Boy Scouts and family members in the construction of the altar, as well as the staining and the four coats of polyurethane it took to make the altar usable in all types of weather.  Instead of using large sheets of plywood for the top and bottom, Carter chose to use 2” x 6” boards and secure them together for more strength.  The altar rolls on four heavy duty wheels, blocked by an apron on three sides.  The two wheels on the back side can be locked.

Now that the boys have completed their Eagle project, as well as completed all rank requirements, and earned the minimum 21 merit badges (Colton has 44, Carter has 33), the final step is to have their Eagle Board of Review.

 Congratulations brothers.
